Some Ways Of Using Pumpkins As Effective Fall Wedding Decorations

by Aaron Hu

Fall Leaf CandlesIf you are a fall bride, you are constantly looking to nature for inspiration when looking for decoration ideas for your wedding. The most often used symbol of autumn is the colored leaves that appear at this season. Others inspirations are the rustic theme or the harvest theme which deal with the interaction of people with the changing of the seasons; however there is one motif that can often be overlooked because it ties with more childish holidays like Halloween. What is it? It’s the humble pumpkin. The pumpkin is eponymous with fall and being so common can sometimes be overlooked but being a gourd it one of nature’s offerings that can not only meet your food needs, but also be a key component of your wedding planning, morphing into whatever you need it to be. Here are some fun and interesting ways to use pumpkins in your wedding.

Pumpkins can be used as is for decoration in your ceremony or reception. A series of medium sized pumpkins can be used as aisle markers or to accent the altar or location where you will exchange vows. The can also be placed near the entrance of the reception hall or even grace the tables of your guest as simple additions to centerpieces. A pumpkin in itself can be a simple and elegant accent to your fall decorations.

The next is as a candle holder. This is something that is already known if you have celebrated Halloween, but hollowed out Pumpkins make excellent candleholder. First they are very customizable. You can carve out any shape you want to be illuminated by the candle within. A great idea is to have small or medium sized pumpkins hollowed out and carved with fall motifs like maple leafs, wheat sheaves, or ears of corn. If you want to have more of a Halloween theme you can carve Jack O’ Lanterns and use holiday themes like witches or bats. A great idea is to use common wedding themes to carve the pumpkins such as bride and groom at the altar or leaving in their car. Intersperse these to remind the guest that they are celebrating your special day. Second, pumpkins candle holders also serve as great mood lighting since the inside of the hollowed out gourds will give the candlelight an even more orange glow that will add warmth to your ceremony or reception atmosphere.

In the same token, a hollowed out pumpkin has other uses. It can be used to hold floral arrangements. For example, you can fill a moderate sized one with mum, poppies, or sunflowers for a seasonal effect. Another great idea is to use them to hold potpourri which can add sweet seasonal scents to the atmosphere of your ceremony or reception hall. Another use is to use them as serving bowls. These are really interesting because they can double both as decoration and dinner ware for your guest. What is more fall themed than serving pumpkin soup in a hollowed out pumpkin as a bowl? It is something that will delight your guests

Finally use the pumpkin as decoration motif for your wedding cake. You can use a small pumpkin as an unconventional cake topper or have a pumpkin shaped cake that looks like pumpkins stacked on top of each other.
